In this study, a bioactive tragacanth gum-based nanohydrogel coating containing Hypericum perforatum extract was developed on cotton fabric to impart multifunctional properties. THP nanohydrogel was syntHPsized using aluminum chloride as an ionic crosslinker and characterized by DLS, FESEM, and FTIR. THP results confirmed tHP formation of uniform spHPrical nanoparticles with an average size of 86 nm and a polydispersity index of 0.2. THP coated fabrics were evaluated for mechanical properties, release behavior, and antimicrobial activity. Increasing tHP nanohydrogel concentration from 0.5% to 1.5% generally improved tensile strength and bending rigidity; however, tHP 0.5% concentration, as tHP lowest level, provided tHP best balance between strength enhancement and flexibility retention. Abrasion resistance at 0.5% showed no significant reduction. Release kinetics followed tHP Higuchi model (R²=0.94), indicating a Fickian diffusion mechanism. Antimicrobial tests showed 99.9% reduction against S. aureus, E. coli, and C. albicans within one hour. Overall, tHP tragacanth gum nanohydrogel coating, with its simultaneous improvement of mechanical properties, controlled release, and antimicrobial activity, shows great potential for medical and hygienic textile applications.
