In recent years, dyes have been widely used in the textile industry due to their specific functional properties. However, the discharge of dye-containing wastewater into aquatic environments can have detrimental effects on natural ecosystems because of the carcinogenic, mutagenic, and toxic characteristics of some dyes. The present study aimed to investigate the performance of the SBA-15/PMMA nanocomposite for the removal of the anionic acid dye Acid Blue 25 (AB25) from aqueous solutions. First, the mesoporous silica SBA-15 was synthesized, followed by the preparation of the SBA-15/PMMA nanocomposite through in situ cross-linked radical polymerization in the presence of functionalized SBA-15. The as-prepared nanocomposite was characterized using FTIR, XRD, TGA, BET, TEM, and FESEM techniques. The effects of pH, adsorbent dosage, and contact time on the adsorption process were investigated and optimized. The optimum conditions were pH 2, an adsorbent dosage of 0.025 g, and a contact time of 60 min. The dye concentration was determined using UV–Vis spectrophotometry. The Langmuir, Freundlich, and Dubinin–Radushkevich isotherm models were evaluated. The Langmuir model provided the best fit to the experimental data (R2 = 0.9969 and RL = 0.0347). Furthermore, based on the enthalpy value (−6.580 kJ mol⁻¹) and Gibbs free energy values, the removal of AB25 was found to be an exothermic and spontaneous process.
