Abstract

In spite of numerous advantages of polymer composites, these materials have some weakness to compare of metals. To solve these problems, the fabrics with special mechanical properties (same as basalt-nylon fabric) were produced in the form of both homogeneous and hybrid. To improve the impact performance of composite materials, in this study for the first experience, after preparing of yarn and adjusting and modifying in ordinary rapier loom, homogenous and hybrid fabrics of basalt and nylon were fabricated. For hybrid fabrics, the percentage of nylon or basalt is equal in the warp and weft directions. After fabricating, the tensile behavior of prepared fabrics was tested. The results show, however the strength of hybrid fabrics was lower than the homogenous ones but the hybrid fabrics had a stepwise fracture. Therefore the hybrid fabrics can prevent to the accident fracture in composite materials.
