Abstract

HejaziBitumen is considered as a primary element of Asphalt Concrete (AC) mixture. Although, the percentage of this material in AC is low, the mechanical properties of AC mixtures will depend on it. Mainly, the temperature-dependence of bitumen leads to rutting on AC pavements in hot seasons, while results in thermal cracking in cold seasons. That is why the reinforcement of bitumen can be considered as an important concept. So, this paper is going to investigate some physical and mechanical properties of bitumen reinforced by different fibers including Poly Propylene, Polyester, Nylon ٦٫٦ and Glass. The mechanical property embraces ductility while the physicalcases comprise penetration and softening point. But only, the results of ductility tests have been presented in this paper and analyzed by using composite mechanics. On the basis of experimental results, it was illustrated that the attendance of fibers in bitumen decreases the ductility.
