Assessment of the Value Chain Development of PET Chips and Polyester Fibers

Abstract
This study aims to assess the feasibility of completing the value chain of recycled PET chips through the production of polyester fibers. The research data include secondary data from online databases and semi-structured interviews with industry experts. The current and future domestic and global market conditions were analyzed using regression analysis. Market opportunities and barriers were examined through thematic analysis. Fixed and variable production costs were estimated based on needs assessment, production process analysis, and equipment evaluation. Finally, a financial-economic analysis was conducted using financial indicators and COMFAR software. The results indicate that Iran's polyester fiber industry faces growth in supply and demand, export and import fluctuations, and structural challenges. The widening gap between supply and demand threatens raw material security and the competitiveness of downstream industries. Although exports are increasing and imports decreasing, dependence on imported raw materials and price volatility remain significant challenges. Technical and financial analyses confirm the economic and technical viability of the polyester fiber production project. Sustainable development of this industry requires optimized resource management, technological advancement, and supportive policies.
